Ashvale Chronicles
★★★★★ 4.7
Ashvale Chronicles is the kind of RPG that pulls you in with characters rather than combat. The writing is sharp, the party members bicker in ways that feel human, and side quests often say more about the world than the main plot does. I found myself doing every optional errand just to hear more dialogue.
Combat is turn-based and readable, with a nice weight to positioning and elemental matchups. Leveling never feels grindy because side content keeps pace with the story, so you're rarely stuck farming.
My only complaint is that a couple of late chapters lean on a difficulty spike, but a slight rework of your party usually solves it. This is a long, satisfying journey that respects players who care about narrative.
